You’ve heard it a million times… visibility is the magic potion for success, right? You have to have it. You have to be everywhere. You can’t be successful and not be visible.
Visibility. Visibility. Visibility!
Honestly, sometimes I think if I hear the word visibility one more time I’m gonna lose it.
Cold hard truth? It’s all true.No one will buy from you unless they know who you are, what you have to offer and why it is valuable to them. And, unless you have millions of dollars to spend on advertising, it means YOU are the one who has to do the work.
Another cold hard truth? Being visible can be hard if you let it — it takes thoughtful planning, creativity, consistency and time. But, adding a few simple strategies to your planning will help your visibility flow.
ONE — Repurpose and Crosspost Content
You don’t have to reinvent the wheel every time you post on social media. In fact, when your message is consistent across your platforms, it reinforces what you are saying. That is where repurposing and crossposting come into play.
My favorite method for doing this is to start with a blog post. Write it out long form and publish it on your blog. Pull out sections from the blog and tweak them a little to post on Facebook and Instagram. Copy short quotes and phrases for Twitter. BOOM — a week’s worth of content from one blog post. Create it all and pre-schedule it using your favorite social media scheduler, like Buffer or Hootesuite.
TWO — Schedule time for visibility
Visibility is about building relationships. How many times will you date someone who only talks about themselves? The same goes for visibility. If you are only posting and never interacting, the relationship will die.
I know.. you’re a busy person and don’t want to get stuck all day on social media, right? The trick to interacting but not getting stuck is to put it on your schedule. Create an appointment on your calendar. Set an alarm. Do what works best for you to schedule it in. Set aside 15 minutes to go through each account and interact.
Interacting doesn’t just mean replying to people who’ve commented on your post, it also means commenting on others posts and showing genuine interest. Get to know people in your audience and learn about them. Ask questions and be sincere.
THREE — Track your interactions
Am I the only one who loves checking things off a list? No? Didn’t think so. Most people love it. In fact, it’s SCIENCE! Checklists break down large tasks into smaller ones, making it easier to accomplish in small, manageable steps. For each success, our brain releases dopamine (like I said.. SCIENCE!) and makes us feel awesome.
You can apply this science-y scenario to your visibility too. Make a checklist for each social platform and each activity to complete each day. Every time your scheduled interaction time comes up, grab your checklist and start checking.
